2D Shooter project made for Game Design and Development

Note: Play in full screen if possible. Thank you!

Controls

WASD & arrow keys: general movement

Mouse direction: aim

ESC: pause/resume the game

Mouse Left Button: shoot projectile/laser

Spacebar (when charge = 100): Ult mode

Made the following changes:

  • The map of the second level is programmatically generated, rather than being copied and pasted from pre-made boundaries (utilizing a hexagon tilemap).
  • Added level unlock system: level 2 can only be played if you beat level 1.
  • Moved high score to pause screen
  • "Fangs" are unlocked at the second level to shoot projectiles alongside the player; sprites of Fangs were repurposed from "Space Station" art provided.
  • Added "Ult" mode for the player: when activated using the Spacebar, shooting speed and movement speed will double. The player will turn red and leave a track of red residuals behind (just for aesthetics, and doesn't really do anything). If Fangs are unlocked, Fang will shoot lasers in Ult mode instead of projectiles.

Known Issues

1. If you beat level two twice and play again, there is a chance that there will be four fangs (I used PlayerPref to store progress, and it seems that it is not restored as you reload the game). If so, activating the ult mode will kill the player immediately: I forgot to prevent friendly damage on the laser. I think nobody will probably play this game as much, but I've included it here in case you are wondering. If this happens, however, using a new browser profile will resolve the issue (basically just a fresh set of user data).

2. High score in the pause screen shows clipped values.

Good game, the camera movement was a bit jarring at first, but I got used to it!

Thank you!

I managed to laser myself! After that I tried to stack as many fangs as I could, they might've been spawning all on top of one another?

Yes! If you get to the second level twice, you will get 4 fangs (not intended). I defined the location of the first three, but the fourth (and 4+) will just be generated by default at the location of the plane.
